I lived aboard a sailboat for many years and one of the places that the boat was docked was Port Canaveral. This was taken back in the pre-cruise ship days, when the Port was a scallopers' haven. A much quieter, less touristy period for the Port. Unfortunately, the scallopers raped the beds dry and slowly one by one their rusted ships left the area; the putrid smell of scallop shells disappeared, and the the cruise ships arrived.

That's a wonderful photo. Has Port Canaveral anything to do with space ships?
The Space Center has its own docks but they do use the Port as an entry point from the Atlantic. The external tank is retrieved from the ocean and brought back to the Space Center after each shuttle launch.

I remember before the cruise ships. My brother-in-law kept his boat there and said he wouldn't eat the scallops because of the bird droppings..
And I do remember the smell. Somehow I'd rather that than all the ships and their garbage.
Thanks for the info!
